Current Trends and Legal Issues in Special Education

On Tuesday, August 27, David Bateman and Mitchell Yell will present a preconference titled, Current Trends and Legal Issues in Special Education. School leaders and special educators are expected to be experts on all levels and types of special education law and services, types of disability, and aspects of academic and functional programming. With the increasing demands of the job and the ever-changing legal and educational climate, few feel adequately prepared to meet the demands. This session will include the legal hot topics in special education litigation, along with recommended practices for educators.

Participants will receive a copy of Current Trends and Legal Issues in Special Education as a reference to build and support timely, legally sound, and effective special education services and programs.

On Wednesday, August 28, Jim Walsh will kick off the first annual Indiana Special Education Law Conference capturing the Year in Review where he will highlight significant court decisions and their impact on special education. Three rounds of concurrent sessions will follow.

Thursday, August 29, will commence with a keynote address titled Rules of Discipline presented by Julie Weatherly. Two rounds of concurrent sessions and a panel to address participant questions will conclude the conference.

Registration for the Special Education Law Conference includes breakfast and lunch both days. A list of restaurants with dinner choices will be included in your conference packet.

Please note meals are not included with preconference registration. Breakfast and lunch is on your own.

The Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone is the conference venue. Lodging is available at the rate of $159 per night plus taxes and fees for those participants who make arrangements by July 31, 2019.
